DEVANG ARVIND SHAH
select utopias

Devang Arvind Shah was born in Queens, New York in 1980 and graduated from Parsons School of Design. He also studied at New York University Stern School of Business, Columbia University GSAPP, and City College of New York Department of Engineering. In 2016 he started his architecture studio, which is based on New York City. In 2022 he founded the research & experimental wing of his practice. His designs engage with the blurring of nature, technology, and spirit, unironically demanding the possibility of a utopian future and present.

Recent projects include the flood resistant Neptune House in New York City (2024-ongoing); the development of lab-grown limestone using industrial waste and solar energy (2022-ongoing); and sculpture A Bed of Roses (2022), a finalist in the Times Square Arts Competition. He began his career as a co-founder of the experimental music group Dragons of Zynth as well as a team member of artist / architect / philosophers Arakawa + Gins. Shah’s work has been published internationally, granted awards, and spans across art, design, architecture, and sculpture.
